The Masseria San Nicola was built by the De Salvo Family , who were already citizens of the town, in 1500. It was the residence of the prime minister” Borbonico” Liborio Romano. This is a typical Salento Masseria, fulcrum of the agricultural activity of the surrounding territory. The Masseria is formed by a central core of several rooms and along the sides of the building a few rooms that were used by the workers and the “massaro” as well as stables for the animals. The walls of the building are made of stones gathered from the surrounding land and are a meter in thickness. The vaulted ceilings are star or round barrel vaulted which have been left without plaster in their natural state.
Without changing the layout of the structure there have been renovated various one room living areas of different sizes each with a cooking corner and bathroom fully independent. The rooms have central heating and air conditioning and are equipped with wi-fi. The surrounding countryside is covered with olive, almond and fig trees as well as the always present prickly pear bushes.
